Alcaraz wins first Vienna title and moves to third on Spain's all-time list
Carlos Alcaraz beat Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in 97 minutes in the Vienna final on Sunday 1 November. It is the 28th title of his career and takes him past David Ferrer (27): in the Open Era only Rafael Nadal and Manuel Orantes have won more among Spanish men.
Alex de Minaur won just one game in the first set. Carlos Alcaraz wrapped up the Vienna final 6-1, 6-4 in 97 minutes on Sunday 1 November and lifted the Erste Bank Open trophy for the first time, on an indoor hard court.
It is the 28th title of his career. It takes him past David Ferrer (27) and makes him the Spanish man with the third-most titles of the Open Era. Only Rafael Nadal, with 92, and Manuel Orantes are ahead.
Sixteen out of sixteen at ATP 500 level
Vienna is his fourth title of 2026, and he won it without dropping a set in five matches. He has not lost a single match at ATP 500 events this season: 16 wins from 16, with titles in Doha and Tokyo as well, according to the ATP. He now has 11 titles at this level; only Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have more in the series.
Against De Minaur, the world No. 10, he is now seven wins from seven meetings. “His style is really dangerous. Really flat balls that slip a lot through the court really low,” said Alcaraz, the world No. 3, after the match. “I’m just really happy that at the end I found my way, played great.”
What comes next
Alcaraz has already qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin, which bring together the year’s best eight players. First comes the Paris Masters this week, where he opens against the winner of Jiri Lehecka v Alex Michelsen.
