Spain extends up to €100 help for children's glasses and contact lenses until the end of 2027
A new royal decree keeps the Plan Veo scheme running for children aged 16 and under. More than 325,000 have used it in 2026.
Spanish families whose children need glasses have another year of help. Royal Decree 853/2026, published in the official gazette on 22 October, extends the Plan Veo scheme until 31 December 2027. It gives up to €100 (VAT included) towards prescription glasses, lenses or contact lenses for children.
Who qualifies
Children aged 16 or under when they apply, who are covered by Spain’s public health system and have a vision problem certified by a health professional. There is no income test, and families apply directly at participating opticians, 7,718 of them in 2026.
Bigger than expected
325,661 children received the aid in 2026, against an estimate of 194,895. The scheme has €141.45 million in total for 2025-2027.
Why it matters
Seeing clearly is key to learning. Glasses at the right time stop a vision problem being mistaken for lack of attention or poor grades.
